[pct-l] Hiking in the rain

On my first thru hike, I wore trail runners the whole way, and my feet were
soaked the length of Washington. It is unnecessary.

Since then, I've had reasonable luck with lightweight GoreTex boots, at
least for a while. After a few weeks, the GoreTex fails and the boots start
to leak. But if you switch footgear in Cascade Locks, you can have dry feet
through all but the perhaps the last week of Washington. Wear light rain
pants to shed the water around the top (I used ultralight Golite rain
pants). In the cool autumn weather, the perspiration for my feet is limited,
and manageable by rotating wool soaks to absorb and they drying them at
night under my sleeping bag.

Steady
