[pct-l] resupply from the hiker box at Muir Trail Ranch

Last year when I went there, staff at MTR were quite alarmed (and not at all
happy about) the number of PCT thru-hikers who had counted on getting free
food out of their hiker box. A hiker number than seen before had
miscalculated the number of calories they needed to ingest at high elevation
and were dangerously hungry and out of food when they arrived, only to find
that the hiker box didn't have what they needed.

Just FYI
I've crossed paths with thru-hikers on a budget who planned on
significant food replenishment from the hiker discards at MTR. They
came away disappointed - couple of guys were running on fumes due to
that miscalculation. While there can be a lot of stuff there during
prime JMT season, its too early for much to be available to the
average thru-hiker.
