Last couple of years 99% of all hikers used the original PCT from Steven's
Pass to Stehekin. The "reroute has not been worked on for years. It is over
grown and unrepaired after all the major storms. A new route (Gadget's
route) opened up between Snoqualmie Pass and Steven's Pass. This got
everyone away from the burned out areas. If you are north bound you need to
question the south bounders. SOBO usually start showing up at Steven's in
July. NOBO start arriving in early August. End of season here depends on
recent snow fall. Last two years we had early heavy snow. Hikers were cut
off in late September. Good years you can get through to the border as late
as the end of October. 8-10 good weather days from Steven's Pass to Manning
Park. You can't tell at your start of your hike how the north Cascades
weather is going to be. If you take too many zeros or what ever you may end
up in deep snow by the time you get here. Your miles per day are lower than
down south. It is not a cake walk up here. Especially in the snow.
