Is there a solar charger for the Droid-- something that can be taking on the
trail?

Yep Verizon overall seems to cover more trail than the others with ATT second.
Don't be fooled at ADZPCTKO where ATT works best and Verizon only part of the
camp.

The Droids come with the optional Swype keyboard where you use one finger to
connect the letters of each word rather than tap them out. It doesn't work bad.

Then get Backcountry Navigator that lets you download topo maps when you have a
signal for use with the gps even if you don't have a cell signal. Yes you can
load gpx files as well such has Halfmiles.
