i have been looking for the same,

pocketmail went out of business, that leaves Peak 9 (horrible customer service, 
lots of outtage times)  and possibly a Kindle 3G (heavy and not meant for 
journaling but does the trick)

i am so frustrated trying to find one i am about to just bring some paper and a 
pen.   but the leading candidate imho is the kindle 3G, awesome battery life,  
can keep unlimitted text ... and can even check your email wherever there is 
cell service (slow as molasses though)


let me know if you find any middle of the road candidate, lighter than a kindle, 
with good battery life, i'll keep your updtaed as i continue to research as 
well.
