Hi Gary,

Okay I so agree that at times the pct-l list gets onto way too many funny replies (I did it once and regreted it) but Paul was trying to be funny (and thanks Paul for most of your sage advice). My trail-name was given to me on the AT in 2006 and I'll always use it, treasure it and remember why.

To me trail names are given not picked, but yes that is my opinion.... hike your own hike, etc. I liked your choices, they have meaning to you and to me that is the point. A reserved trail name? hello... not possible, just as a given name.

The AT is a seperate beast, I loved my time on the AT and hope to have half that on the PCT.....

The only thing I thought I would say is welcome to this list....

Flying Tortoise

(I'd love to hear how everyone got their trail names, mine was from a great german guy on the AT that was hiking (supporting his wife and mother in law (lefty and righty() and I'd see him everyday, after a few days (of seeing the same guy waliking sobo) we started talking and although I hiked slow I covered lots of miles. I wanted to call myself turtile, but he crowned me flying tortoise, and it worked and made me smile.
