"I like Fritos Corn Chips myself, one of my favorite snack foods. Never thought about carrying them on an extended hike, seems like it would be hard to keep from crushing them. What other ready to eat corn pastas are out there on the market?"
I pre-emptively crushed my fritos into powder to save volume. I would get three big bags 700 caloriesX3 or 2100 calories of Frito powder at every town stop on the CDT. Then I just used my spoon to eat the powder. Another great Frito dish is to put a 2 inch layer of Frito Powder in you ziplock bowl, cover with a layer of peanutbutter, add another layer of Nutella. Let stand overnight in the cool air. In the morning you have a well consolidated "Frito Pie".
By the way.. getting all my groceries together and sitting on the curb outside the store to smash fresh bags of Frito's was one of my favorite thru hiker "show-off" things to do. Make sure you wear your shades so you can see the reactions you get!
Love Fritos!
