The main reason that the metric system is used, is because the pounds, ounces are too crude  to be used for very small measurements of  supplies. 
And it's just easier and more logical to use and  all products  come in packages marked with the metric values.
This is not NASCAR, it's backpacking.
Plus were just smarter then the average bear, even yogi says that.  :-)
