Good morning, All,

In Sept. ’02 when I crossed into Canada at Manning Park via Monument-78
there was no-one to check documents of course, but my entry permit said to:
1) check in with the RCMP at Hope to have my permit vaccinated, and, 2)
surrender the permit at a Customs Canada control point before I returned to
the U.S.

This I did: The Mounties at Hope were glad to see me, saying that they
didn’t have many hikers stop, but at my exit at Blaine it was a different
story. I stopped at Customs Canada at the border, parked, and went inside
the office to surrender the permit. The official was pleasant, read the
permit, and said he had never seen one of those before. The opinion of a
second official was the same: Never seen one before. However, since it
said it’s to be surrendered, they happily took it and thanked me.

At the adjacent U.S. Customs entry port I presented my passport and was
immediately cleared for entry. That’s been a few years ago so I don’t know
if any of the laws, rules, or administrating guidelines have changed.
