[pct-l] looking for historical info on PCT signs

I'm aware of just two general designs for the sign. The original was a
diamond, a few are still found on the trail, with lots of bark growing over
them. One such sign is available for the next couple days at
http://planyourhike.com/media/pctexperience.html

The current, curved triangle sign is more common. With "modern" technology,
they have been made in metal, plastic, wood burning, etc. Variations
sometimes show up when carved by chainsaw or drawn by hand, the latter not
typically an official marker. Stickers of these signs are sold by PCTA and
also on ebay.

Note that the sign design is trademarked by the USFS and permission is
needed from the PCTA to use it.

I don't recall either design in the 1945 PCTrailway book or it's earlier
variations as pamphlets, but can check later. The Pacific Crest Trail Club
of the 1970s had a patch very similar to the sign, but with more detail.
