Thanks to a break in my kid's rockclimbing trip schedule, I find
myself with a windfall three days next week. Having had to skip
Quincy-LaPorte Road to Chester due to the fire closure two or three
years ago, I'd like to get back to it. At least Quincy-LaPorte Road
to Belden.

Three calls to Plumas NF asking for conditions info (ie: has the
trail been brushed? blowdowns? burn areas?) and no calls back.

Anyone been through there recently? Hope water's not in too short
supply after the middle fork of the Feather. It's going to be hotter
than Hades down in those river canyons. (I'm toying with going w/o a
sleeping bag this time, for the three-day fastpack.)

Thanks for your consideration,

DP

I am just now reading your post for I was out there in that exact area to finish Section N. I'll have to qualify that, I went from Humboldt Summit to Domingo Springs Camp Ground. Just returned yesterday. I have only the word of two people I don't know (met in passing) who said it was all but waterless during the hike from Beldon to Cold Springs. I do know for certain the following have tons of water. At one of these springs the pressure blew my water bottle out of my hand! If you go down Carter Meadows Trail just a half mile you'll find running water on the right and camping; Soldier Creek has plenty also; Piper's Mom has a stash of goodies right after crossing Hwy. 36; Stover Camp also has a running forcefully water out of a pipe. And, if you need to, do the .3 mile walk to Domingo Springs camp ground. There is piped spring water on the left side of the road.

I've only been home less than 24 hrs. but Plumas RS may not have answered their messages due to a fire in and around Beldon. Maybe I said this in the wrong order. Fires might again be a problem. I am sorry. Hope you get to do your hike and enjoy it.

...going to the mountains is going home.
