I have been shooting my hiking, birding, travel, work and family pictures
with the Canon SX200IS and I love it. The PowerShot SX200IS is a 12 MP
Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and
3.0-inch LCD. It shoots 720p video with zoom and sound! Mine weighs in 8.7
ounces, so a bit heavy for you gram weenies, but for me this is one of the
most important packing items next to food and water. I carry a second
rechargeable battery (.85 oz) and the charger (2.15 oz).
Over all this camera meets my needs better than any other I found when I did
the research about 6 months ago.

I did the Long Trail and AT with a Canon A570 (7MP 6x optical zoom). It's
been a nice camera. It took great pictures (decent lens and CCD) and I
liked that it took AA batteries, which on the AT meant that any little store
or gas station carried my camera's battery. My only complaint is that was a
little on the large and heavy side. Well now it's dead and I'm hunting for
a new camera, which will come out on the trail with my fiancee and I this
spring.

What have people been using on thru hikes? AA or propriatary lithium (if
lithium how do you handle recharging and resupply)? Anyone using of of
Canon or Panasonic's (Lumix) compact wide angle cameras?

Thanks,

Granite
