Just in case, you know? I would like to no not have to travel too far
for a hike, since there are tons of them right here in front of me, so
no more than an hour or and hour and a half. I would like day hikes, or
maybe weekend trips, the most I would do is a week or to, but that
requires substantial training before a trek like that. I am here to
meet new friends, and also enjoy my new life here and nature. Is there
anyone out there with the same interests who would like to help me out?

Sorry if you have already seen this posting....

Fellow PCT enthusiasts,

My name is Steph Fellows and I am a student at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo studying Outdoor Recreation and Environmental Ethics. I am working on a research project and need your help! It doesn't matter if you've hiked one mile on the PCT or 2,650 miles of it, everyone is encouraged to participate in the survey. The questionnaire has 44 items and should take approximately 10 minutes. Through these questions it is possible to determine the motivations of trail users as well as potential benefits attained (e.g., healthy lifestyle). With this information we hope to continue to educate the populace on the importance of designated trails like the PCT. We also hope to reinforce maintenance of the trail as well as convey the health benefits (mental and physical) of hiking. The survey can be accessed by the following link:

http://oira.cortland.edu/selectsurveyasp2/TakeSurvey.asp?SurveyID=42J475K1662KG

The survey hinges on your participation. We are struggling with participants right now. Please share this information with everyone you know and if you have any questions please contact Steph Fellows, sfellows at calpoly.edu.

I also have a very in depth explanation including the theories and method in which we are conducting this survey. If you would like to read into that I would be happy to send it to you.

Thanks and happy hiking!
Steph

oops, haha I guess I was having a blonde moment. So I was thinking, is there any body who would want to do a group hike on the PCT? I just recently moved, here and am dying to go out, but I plan on being with at least one other person, in case you, know? I live in Camino, next to Placerville, CA, which is fairly close to some of the trail heads. :D

PLEASE I used to hike every weeekend and now since I moved here, I found out my cousins, aren't rele the outdoorsy type.

Thanx

Biz

Yes, water most definitely was the heaviest thing in my pack.

Well, I'm of to Catalina Island to enjoy the cool ocean breezes while
Switchback is sweating in Las Vegas.
I will be thinking of you all while slurping "Margaritas" and watching
bikini clad surfer babes stroll by.
I believe Ellen recommends a minimum of one liter of liquids per
hour....lets see now....1 x 24 = 24.
Boy, that will be a lot of "Margaritas".
Hhhmmm......I wonder how Margaritas, in place of water, would work when
hiking in the desert?
Just wondering,......that's all.

Check out the short video on the PCTA home page, <http://www.pcta.org/>...
Click on "Inyo NF Video Highlights PCTA Volunteers"...
It's six minutes about the "Can Do Crew in Inyo NF...

Watch the video!
THANK YOU!! to the Can Do Crew (and ALL the other trail crews, too!)...

A fantastic PBS series coming soon (Sunday, 9/27/09), "The National Parks - America's Best Idea"...
Check it out, get more info, and see video clips at <http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/>...
Don't miss it - it looks like an outstanding program series...

Perhaps we can remind some folks (i.e., our Senators & Representatives?) that the PCT falls under
the National Park Service 'umbrella' - so they should watch it too!

Happy trails!!!

Snow Bunny Margarita Reinhold: Well, I'm of to Catalina Island to enjoy the cool ocean breezes while Switchback is sweating in Las Vegas.? I will be thinking of you all while slurping "Margaritas" and watching bikini clad surfer babes stroll by.?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Switchback replies: Yes, I am currently a little warm, but not too much.? I will be in the cool Sierras and the PCT next weekend.? I will be doing the famous Island Pass-Cottonwood Pass loop hike.? This will be a dangerous high altitude exposed to cancer-causing radiation hike.? Switchback will be covered in high anti-radiation clothing and solar umbrella.? The new Marmot solo tent will be deployed for a palatial repose.? Other hikers will be ripped by winds, rain, and radiation, while Switchback is laying peacefully?in his freestanding tent with a smile on his face.?

I'm focused on hiking from the Crater Lake Hwy138 to Mt Hood in 2010, and am
wondering where the current successful points to ship reloads this year
might be. I'm hoping the 2009 PCT hikers can help me with this info. I'll be
at the ALDHAw gathering on Mt Hood next weekend, and am looking forward to
being within a crowd of passionate hikers again.

Hi, I am a single woman who just moved here from Lewiston, ME three Mondays ago, and am living with my
cousins now in CAMINO, CA. This is near many trailheads to the PCT and the El Dorado National Forest. I am
here because I am establishing residency so that I might be able to go
to Humboldt State University for a cheaper price instead of the out-of-state fee (around $30,000).
So, I am basically hanging out for a year, gathering funds and
knowledge. My Austrian dad and I would go hiking almost every weekend
before I left, and I loved that so much. I am not at the point where I
can go off on my own, in other words, I have so much more that I can
learn and benefit from. But I am dying here, because my cousins are not
very active in that area. I need to get out and go into the wilderness.
Before I left my dad told me to search out the Pacific Crest Trail Club, because there was an Appalachian Trail Club on the East (the AMC) and he remembered there was an group specifically
for the Pacific Trail. And, at least on the East Coast, if you are
involved in that club, you are able to go on joint hikes, and such, and
that would be great for me, because then I wouldn't have to worry about
being alone and would learn the whole time. I am eighteen, and I just
got a job at an apple orchard, so I am starting to get busy, but I am still desperate to get out. I like photography, so I will
probrably be bringing my awesome point and shoot camera with me for potential photos. The
only way I can excercize is by walking on the roads around
here because there isn't really a good terrain to train - well there are bike trails
but they are flat, and besides, there are a ton of creepy people there that I wouldn't want to surround myself with in case a situation were to arise. And
because of me just walking on the hilly roads, I have gotten, kinda out
of shape, since Maine... :[ so keep that in mind, but I
like to go a good pace, and not stop all the time. So that way you
don't tire the crud out of your body. I am a single woman, and would like to be with other single women, but if on the occasion I do happen to go with men, I would like at least one other woman there with me. Just in case, you know?
