Tell your family that virtually everyone thru hiking the PCT is doing so solo. Then explain that solo hikers hookup with other solo hikers and voila...they are now a group of hikers and no longer alone! The group will become pretty good friends too. You'll meet lots of thru hikers at KM toward mid to late June.
