I'm not really sure what a tent footprint is. But it sounds like it's
just a ground cloth but somehow they've found a way to make it
heavier and costlier.
I recommend the polycro ground sheets from Gossamer Gear. I used one
last year for 1500 miles and it never sprung a hole. It's like magic.
And for only $5 you get two of them. If one isn't wide enough, you
can tape them together and trim to the size you need.
