Hi Kea,
I used Verizon last year, and was pleasantly surprised with the coverage out
on the trail. Yesterday, Halfmile posted a response (here on the PCT-l) to
the thread "How do people comunicate via internet from the trail" wherein
Crystal asked about coverage for journaling from the trail. Halfmile is
compiling a cell phone coverage report, and encourages hikers to submit
reports from the field. Here's the link to his page/reports:

Subject: [pct-l] Cell Phones
What is the general experience with cell phones on the PCT? Like what
coverage do they have and which is the best one?
I read a comment a few years ago that said that for all practical purposes
that (with the exception of a satellite phone), they only work in towns.
But there appears to be a lot of people updating journals and sending
messages from the trail so something must work somewhere.
Kea
