It's not how much, it's the when. More snow came later. But overall less 
than the annual average.

The situation is enhanced by folks choosing start dates for reasons that 
have nothing to do with trail conditions. (don't get me started) Being that 
many folks choose start dates using the same criteria, you get a bunch of 
hikers experiencing the same conditions and thus, hear about it more due to 
the large number of hikers.

Fortunately, Black Mtn Road is an easy alternate.
