Looking for comfort? light weight? something in between?

The basic types are:

LIGHT AND CHEAP: The really basic, closed cell foam pad you find in the XYZMart's and surplus stores camping section.
Colloquially known as the "blue foam pad". They are less than $10 and can be cut down to various sizes to be very light. They are on
the thin side and may not be enough padding for most people. FWIW, it is what I use.

COMFY (BUT HEAVY AND EXPENSIVE): The Thermawrest types. Popular with those who wish to have a comfy night's sleep.
As mentioned, they are heavy and expensive but some extra padding can also make sure you get a good night's sleep.

Z-LITE (formerly Z-REST) OR SIMILAR: Something in between. A foam pad that is not as light or inexpensive as the blue foamer, but
is lighter and less expensive than the thermarest types. A good happy medium for many people.

They are other makes and models of pads, but the above covers the basic types in my opinion. Depending upon your style
of hiking and comfort level, I'd decide which works best for you and then find a specific brand and type.
