[pct-l] getting water from the aquaduct

There are two aqueducts in the Mojave.

The Los Angeles Aqueduct is closed, first running north in a large pipe
above ground and then northeast inside a concrete-covered canal. The
only access I know of is at the Cottonwood Creek bridge, where LADWP has
installed a faucet for hikers - BUT, there is only water if the aqueduct
has water in it, and right now the aqueduct is empty. Last year it
started flowing sometime in May IIRC. Flow presumably is based on demand
in LA, supply in the Eastern Sierra, and environmental restrictions in
the Owens Valley.

The other aqueduct is an open concrete-lined canal running roughly
east-west about a mile or so north of Highway 138. A few hikers have may
have taken water there, although this NOT legal. The aqueduct is fenced
and posted. In addition, the sloping concrete walls pose a danger in
falling into the canal and being swept downstream and drowning.
