There is some great hiking in the San Gabriel mountains about an hour from
where you will be.

Off of the 210 Freeway in Arcadia, exit Santa Anita and head toward the
mountains. The road dead ends at Chantry Flats, about 8 miles from the
freeway. Try Hoagee's loop--follow the dirt road above the parking lot past
the picnic area, in a quarter mile the trail peals off to the right. The
loop eventually takes you along a beautiful stream among pines, sycamores,
etc. The loop is 5 miles. Or, take the gated road heading down from the
parking area into the canyon and hike upstream along the creek to
Sturtevant Falls--about 2 miles. Should be nice this time of year. You can
keep hiking up canyon for as many miles as you have time.

Beautiful area that is surprisingly close and accessible to the city.

Hello, I just resubscribed to this list. Im looking forward to the news. I
have not been to CA in several years, and now will have a long weekend
there, end of April. Will fly into LAX and primarily stay in Long Beach. I
want to get out for a day of hiking. I'm looking for suggestions of where I
can hike within a 2-3 hr drive.

I live in Colorado, hike avidly, climb 14ers. Would like to get out into
the hills and see some real scenic areas.

Wondering if theres any part of the PCT that's accessible then, or would it
be under snow, in the areas east of LA/Long Beach. What would be the most
scenic segment to do?

Could I climb San Bernadino, San Gorgonio or San Juancinto, (sorry to miss
spell these names) or would the be under snow...

This might not be the best spot to request info, but its the only group I
know. If theres some other web groups to find good southern CA hiking
options please let me know.

It would be best for you to reply directly to me at lindajagger at yahoo.com
