You won't need 16 liters of water at any stop. Seriously. 20 miles is  
just a day's worth of walking. You won't need to drink 16+ liters of  
water in one day. (The + is because you can drink/cook at the water  
source, saving even more of the weight of carrying the water.)

Even that one 35.5 mile waterless stretch has a detour you can take  
for water, cutting that distance roughly in half. And that's only  
necessary if the water caches are empty.
