[pct-l] altimeters

I don't know anything about altimeters. Never used one. But I hiked  
with someone who had one in his watch last year and he found it handy  
to be able to tell where he was in relation to the Data Book. If we  
were standing at a crossroads and his altimeter was pretty close to  
the elevation we ought to be if we're standing at such-and-such road  
in the Data Book, then we had a good idea that's where we were and  
not some other such-and-such road. Doesn't have to be a perfect match  
for elevation, but as long as you're in the ball park you can figure  
out where you are.
