To increase the performance of any sleeping pad, finding a suitable piece of 
ground goes a loooong way towards a good nights sleep. In the deserts or 
above tree line it can be a bit tough. With a little effort, thick grass or 
pine duff does a real nice job.

That's why I also perfer a Z-rest, egg carton type pad. It does a great job 
on good ground.
