In the short term it's certainly possible that PCT thru-hikers will lose
certain benefits or amenities that recent classes have become accustomed to.
That's ok - people hiked the trail before many of those amenities were
available in the first place and they'll continue to do regardless.  Each
thru-hiker takes the trail as it is in that moment.

In the long term, well . . . it's human nature to take recent history and
extrapolate that forward forever.  When times are good, people think it'll
be good forever.  When times are bad, people think our country will sink
beneath the waves never to be seen again.  The fact is that everything goes
in cycles.  Sure, funding is getting cut to all kinds of things right now,
but it won't always be like that.  Our parks and trails will survive as long
as there are people who care about them.
