It almost sounds like some on this list are actually advocating They
close the trail to save money and keep us safe.
I am a strong believer in individual responsibility, and as such try to
share what I know to stay safe and protect our environment. I do
recognize that if we mess things up trails can temporarily close. I
particularly worry that when anyone says the trail is "unsafe" They may
close the trail because they can't afford to fix it right now. Hey,
guess what, the trail does have hazards, it's part of being in the
wilderness. Be careful.
Let's not threaten those who don't follow the rules with "the trail
could be closed" as that just might bring about the actual closure - if
we the users see it as unsafe, why would They the Powers That Be argue
otherwise? Instead, educate and encourage good practices and the
benefits we and the trail gain from doing what is right.
