Measured carbohydrates disolved in liquid (sports drinks, gels with water)
can be absorbed in the intestine about as easily as water, at a rate of 1
gram of carbs per minute or 60 grams per hour ( ~20-30 oz of water can be
absorbed per hour).

Solids require extra time and energy to be processed by the gastrointestinal
tract. During extended moderate/extreme exertion the GI is the first body
funtion to shut down to use energy elsewhere. This can and does lead to GI
distress.

So depending on your conditioning, the individual and effort you exert, you
can certainly put yourself in a very uncomfortable position with even
moderate binging.

Careful on that climb up to Wrightwood!
