I learned to take the head lamp off my head hiking the Grand Canyon at
night. I usually attach the light to my wrist. Not only do the rocks now
have shadows, but the bugs are stop dive-bombing my face.

Subject: [pct-l] Night Hiking Light Trick

Hey, Y'all!
I am up here night hiking on the Hat Creek Rim mile1395 of the PCT.
I just discovered something about headlamps. I was stumbling along because
the brown rocks stuck in the brown trail cast no shadows while the headlamp
was above my eyes(forehead).
I wrapped the lamp(Petzl Zipka) around my neck instead tucking it upside
down between my Adam's apple (Hyoid Bone) and jaw. The result is just
enough of a shadow is cast behind the "trip" rocks in to trail so I don't
die.
Maybe Y'all knew about this but it's new to me.
Anyhow I got a few more hours to go before I allow myself to drop.
Cheers-Iceaxe
