Yes Switchback,
That is what it is....a COMMUNIST  CONSPIRACY.....against hardcore 
backpackers like you and me, to soften the resistance against a future 
revolution.

Yes, my wife (Karen) is indeed a nice lady and I am very fortunate to 
have met her.
Of course, I was that dashing, handsome looking Marine who just returned 
from Vietnam with a chest full of medals and the poor girl just could 
not resist my charm.
I do, however, sympathize with poor Mrs. Switchback.
And yes, Karen is a very normal American girl......She is not abnormal 
like you and I.......She never got afflicted by this terrible
"MHD" (Moronic Hiking Disorder) like you and I .

No Karen is not very brave.....she does not have to be.....I protect and 
take good care of my women.
One time, many years ago, Karen got separated from our scout group in 
the Sierra and when I finally found her she was screaming, with tears 
running down her cheeks,....REINHOLD.....REINHOLD.
She had screamed so much that her throat was all sore.....poor 
girl......she thought she was hopelessly lost in the wilderness.
Well anyhow, since then I always keep my women in front of me and keep 
an eye on them to protect them from getting lost or from being 
apprehended by that scoundrel called Switchback.

And now my friends, in the words of  General Douglas MacArthur,  "Old 
soldiers never die,  they just fade away",  this old soldier, turned  
backpacker, will now also just fade away.
.
"Adios" my friends,...........it has been nice knowing all of you  (well 
most of you anyhow),...........hope to see  you all on the trail some day.
