You will probably want to carry Technu from day 1.

My first encounter with poison oak was about 9 miles from the southern
terminus. I lent my Technu to another hiker at Mount Laguna. You will
also see poison oak around Barrel Spring. It is thick along Agua
Caliente Creek as you leave Warner Springs.
