Since I spoke in favor of boots earlier (for me, anyway), I should mention
that I wear *lightweight* boots.  Two lbs, 10 oz., which is about 10-12 oz.
heavier than most trail runners, true, but it's not ridiculously excessive.
They're not bombproof and I would expect to go through multiple pairs on a
thru-hike.  Pretty expensive, but hey, they work for me, so who am I to
argue?  (Brand is Lowa Renegades, in case anyone asks.)
