[pct-l] CAMERA Choices???

I have a Digital Rebel XTi, which I like, but I wouldn't consider it for a
long-distance hike. I just think an SLR is too bulky (IMO). At the same
time, a hiker named JZ(I think?) carried an SLR this past year, and still
wasn't regretting it when he hit Washington.

I carried a Canon PowerShot S70 (7 Mpix, 3.6x zoom) on my OR and WA hikes,
and was very happy with it, but it's long-discontinued. I'm a Canon
loyalist, so if I was buying a camera today for a long-distance hike, I
would probably buy a PowerShot G10 (5x zoom), or a PowerShot SX1 IS (20x
zoom). Why these 2? They're not the smallest or the lightest, but they are
Canon's only 2 current-production compact cameras that have RAW ability,
and that's a critical factor to me. Even better, the SX1 can shoot 1080p30
videos if that's important to you.

Both are expensive options, though, and the SX1 might not be available
before you head out from Campo. It won't be available in N. America until
April, but it's available in the rest of the world right now.

Just my $0.02
