My personal request is that you talk about FOOD!! I don't care how boring you think it is... Some of us think it is fascinating (yes, I'm warped). AND it can only help the hiking community in the long run b/c I am constantly developing new recipes... I'd love to have more to off the thrus. :)

Happy Hiking all.

So we're getting closer to the kickoff and it's a good time to mention trail journals.
Specifically, what makes a good trail journal.  These are of course my own opinions
on the subject. YM no doubt will V.

Good trail journals all have similar qualities:
1.  Posted on Postholer.com  (wwwaaaaayyyy faster than trialjournals.com)
2.  consistent entries - daily being the ultimate
3.  Accurate identification of daily camp site location
4.  Personal highlights, insights, special events, hardships, etc.
5.  Temperature high and low
6.  Hours hiked or start/stop times
7.  Resupply point info - planned and unplanned
8.  Gear reviews - periodic reviews of what works and what is sent home.
9.  All the other personal stuff that makes the journal unique

I did not read ALL of the journals from 2008, but I did read some that I thought were
exemplary, such as:
1.  Gadget - http://postholer.com/journal/viewJournal.php?sid=773682b75c240cf52fe416f075e2d274&event_id=259
2.  DragonAnt - http://postholer.com/journal/viewJournal.php?sid=773682b75c240cf52fe416f075e2d274&entry_id=1404
3.  Cuddles - http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=214798
4.  POD - http://postholer.com/journal/viewJournal.php?sid=773682b75c240cf52fe416f075e2d274&entry_id=1728
5.  Gopher - http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=212287
6.  Slider - http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=254107
7.  Hoffa - http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=254824

Best success to those of you who are gearing up for 2009!!  I'm looking forward to reading about your adventure.
