Andy,

I agree with Wes.  It sounds like you by far do not own a snarling aggressive dog that you let run far in front of yourself to at best pester and scare other people.  It sounds that all of the comments made so far about dogs, which quite frankly are a risk on the trail, don't apply to you and your dog.  Have a fun hike!
