Oh yes:

the past, humans did not have maps and they were still able to get  
where they wanted to go."

Yes..because the knew the area well! I don't take a map when I am walking
to the local grocery store. But I did take a map when I drove to North
Carolina. :)

People have always used navigation aids in the past. (There is the legend
of how a certain part of the male anatomy was used by Polynesians for their navigation. :O )


Maps are just easier. :)

And for those that did not have maps? Look up The Franklin Expedition. ;)
