if i remember correctly, that spring is way down in a steep boulder and 
brush choked canyon and is more or less inaccesible to hikers. if one 
were desperate, you could probably get down to the spring, but i've 
personally never heard of any hiker going down there. sure didn't look 
like a good idea to me, anyway.
