The traditional date is June 15th, but it depends very much on the specific weather for that year and the *actual* best starting date can vary by one or two weeks in either direction. It also depends on if you have some tolerance for snow, or if you want it all gone before you start.
If you're able to retain some flexibility in your plans, the best thing to do is to wait for as long as you possibly can before committing yourself. If you have to make up your mind right now, choosing something close to June 15th should be a reasonably safe bet if you don't mind dealing with snow in some places.
