The last 5 miles of fire-closed PCT is open from Belden to Highway 36 near 
Chester in Nor Cal.  Lassen NF staff wasn't really up on the situation, but 
the consensus was that the trail is open if you stay on the trail and don't 
wander off into the forest.  This may help some hikers who want to take 
advantage of Indian Summer to hike the Nor Cal portions they missed.  We are 
due for some, hopefully, generous rainfall, possibly snow, beginning 
tonight, and hopefully it won't impact the trail negatively.  Roads in the 
fire zones could have boulders rolling off the slopes onto the roads.  If 
you must drive up highway 32 or 70, call Cal Trans 1=800-427-7623 to hear an 
interactive message on road conditions.  It's supposed to warm up again 
during the coming week.
