Kicks? What the heck are kicks? Is this some new hip term for shoes?
If so, I found Brooks Trail Runners to be the shoe of choice for my tootsies. They are not that common on the trail, but they were perfect for me. I pre-bought 5 pair of shoes and used 5 pair on my 2006 thru hike. I likely could have got by with 4, however, 20 days and nearly 250 miles of snow in the Sierra and one of these pair of shoes found their way into the trash in Lake Tahoe as soon as I got off-trail.
Unlike others on the list, I did not buy a pair of shoes that were 1-2 sizes bigger than I normally wear, however, I put nearly 400 miles of training in in the 1-2 months prior to my hike and I had very little foot swelling on the trail.
It has been two years since I got off the trail, and Brooks Trail Runners are still the only non-loafer shoe I wear. I absolutely love them.
