I would say usually a big fat no! In 2001 we found that the schedule we worked out at home was not what we actually accomplished. In one instance we had to hitch into a town and rent a car to meet my daughter in Lake Tahoe. I was very fun through to have my daughter struggle to keep up with me instead of her usual leaving me in the dust--hee hee.
We are doing the trail this year and that same daughter will be meeting us in our home state so she can bend her schedule to us instead of vice versa. To have Angie join us I am allowing an extra two days on that section--although she is a fast hiker she wants to stop and pick the blueberries.
My best advice would be only allow peope to hike with you if you can afford to cut down your mileage for a few days and if they can meet you when you get there, not you having to rush or wait for them. Free
