You don't necessarily need to unsubscribe (you can't post unless you are subscribed) - but to unsubscribe OR disable mail delivery...

Go to the 'info page', <http://mailman.backcountry.net/mailman/listinfo/pct-l> ...
Scroll to bottom and click on "Unsubscribe or edit options" button...
Next page enter your email address and password (if you get an error message, scroll down and click on the password reminder button)...
Once you get to the next page, scroll down and either unsubscribe or scroll further to options and disable mail delivery...
