[pct-l] Scary stuff ahead

Hey Piper,

I have not been to that area but looking at the map, there is indeed a trail
down to Leavitt Lake. It starts just south of the lake and runs to the east
side of the lake after a rather steep descent. I eventually leads to hwy 108
several miles east of where the PCT crosses the highway.

Is there something specifically scary you have heard about Sonora? It's only
at about 9600 feet and there is a hwy there as well. I do see a few saddles
on the miles approaching Sonora that are a bit higher and a few areas that
look pretty steep. According to Scotts latest Postholer post there is still significant
snow in the area. (look for his boot while you are there!) :)

I wish I could be more help.
P.S. I have been following your trail journal as I prepare for my 2009 hike.
Keep on truckin!

Darren

Piper,
I don't know anything about the alternate route, but Leavitt Lake and
a trail to it, clearly show on the guidebook map. It's only about a
1/2 mile from the PCT, but about 1000 feet down. I am guessing the
trail down to the lake is a mile or a bit longer, and then jeep roads
go to Sonora Pass.
