My son is section hiking this area and just arrived in Belden this morning.
Fortunately for him (he was suppose to be there yesterday, would have been
smack in the middle of the fire if he'd left early this morning), it is full
of smoke (Belden) some talk of evacuation, Hwy 70 is closed, there are two
lightning fires approaching Belden, and are near Quincy too. He was able to
get a ride to Quincy, but now needs to get to Chico so he can get over to
Sierra City. I talked with the fire headquarters in Quincy, they were
shutting down the PCT, they were sending in smoke jumpers around 3:00 PM
today. If anyone has suggestions on how he can get from Quincy to either
Chico or Sierra City please let me know. As far snow he met a guy yesterday
who had got threw just fine, snow that is. Hope this helps. He (my son) was
a 2006 thru and I really appreciated all the trail angels that helped him
then, you guys and girls ROCK!!!! Also a Great Big Thank You to Georgi. he
stayed with you last week on this hike, you are Awesome ( his name is Todd
Sanders) he had a really wonderful time staying with you, said you reminded
him of me (now that's great compliment for me!). It has been crazy up here
in Northern CA (500 fires caused by lightning on Sat) 22 in the mountains
where I live. I live about 10 miles so. of the so. gate to Yosemite, and we
have 3 small fires around us right now. I really do read this pct-l all the
time, I guess I'm addicted to it like he is the trail, I love reading
everyones opinions. Take care everyone. Rena "3tmom"
