BRIDGE AT AGNES CREEK COMPLETED
The footbridge is now in place across Agnes Creek on the Agnes Creek Trail
and is open to both hikers and stock. The bridge is located one-half mile
from the Agnes Creek Trailhead in the Stehekin Valley of Lake Chelan
National Recreation Area. The Agnes Creek Trail is part of the Pacific
Crest Trail which spans from Mexico to Canada.
The Agnes Creek Trail footbridge was destroyed during the winter of 2006-7
by a large fallen tree. A temporary bridge was put in for the 2007 summer
season, while a more permanent replacement was designed. The new bridge was
flown into place on the morning of July 2nd and trail crews have been
working to secure the bridge and complete the footing and handrails.
Including the Agnes Creek Trail, North Cascades National Park Service
Complex has nearly 400 miles of trails and over 100 backcountry campsites
that are available for exploration by hikers of all ages and abilities. The
Agnes Creek Trail is an excellent day hike for families staying in the
Stehekin Valley wishing to see the giant western redcedars, or can be a
stunningly beautiful part of a longer backpacking trip over Suiattle Pass
for the more adventurous. All overnight stays in the backcountry require a
free permit that must be obtained in person at the visitor/information
station nearest the departure point. For up-to-date trail information and
assistance in trip planning, please visit www.nps.gov/noca or call the
Wilderness Information Center at (360) 854-7245 or the Golden West Visitor
Center in Stehekin, WA at (360) 854-7365, ext 14.
