sure, of course- if solitude is what you're specifically after, then you 
can find ways to get it. heck, hike the trail in winter if you want 
solitude! :)

but if i'm reading louise's post correctly, she's not talking about 
specifically seeking out solitude or actively avoiding human contact. 
she's expressing a *concern* about hiking alone, and the possible 
risks/challenges. also, again if i'm reading her correctly, it sounded 
as if she's under the impression that, by deciding to hike without a 
partner, this means that she's deciding to hike "alone," ie with little 
human contact. this is clearly a false dichotomy on the pct for the vast 
majority of thrubies.

so my comment was meant to address that concern, ie that if she's 
worried about too much solitude, she shouldn't be.
