We always travel up the east side of the Sierras to trailheads. If you
are traveling up the east side to hike Sonora Pass, there are two places
to get a permit. First, there is a ranger station at Bridgeport, on the
highway just south of town. Second, there is a write-your-own permit
station at the trailhead parking lot at Leavitt Meadow, on 108 on the
way up to Sonora Pass. You just fill out a permit and drop a copy in
the box.
