Simply by putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard), the content is 
automatically "copyright of the author" - The rights to fair use and 
duplication are another matter and vary depending on the terms the work was 
released and also laws of the country where re-use takes place.

 By posting to some on line forums (yahoo springs to mind), the author(s) 
agree to surrender copyrights to the hosting company - Read any user 
agreements very carefully when registering !

As allways, if in doubt, consult with a lawyer well versed in international 
copyright law.
