Both Lone Pine and Independence are a easy hitch. I have done both several times now. If you have a PCT hiker to town/trail sign you will get a ride in minutes in most cases. Don't be afraid to hitch hike, being vunerable is what makes the PCT a adventure.
   
  Ear plugs, just the cheap foam type, should be a must for backpacking. When you realize you setup to near a raging water fall. Or for loud talkers/snorers at VVR and other populated locations. They can make the difference between misery and a pleasant nights sleep.
