[pct-l] Shakedown hike

I am looking for an area to do my shakedown hike and I was wondering if
there were any areas in the Gila or Leopold wildernesses that would be a
good area to practice tarping and shakedown the rest of my gear. I've got
spring break coming up in mid-march and I figured that the Gila should be
somewhat thawed by then, although learning how to do some snow pack
traversing could be a good deal for me...

Any other ideas? I'm trying not to stray too far from OK due to $ and time
restraints.
