Say, I was wondering.....on SB's upcoming expedition to the Grand Canyon......what would you call it, exactly????  An assault on ...............the floor?????

   Yes, this is what I recommended to SB in place of bread.  I lived on english muffins and cheese twice a day for 4 months on the AT, after I quit cooking on the trail.  English muffins don't go moldy in the pack (don't know why) and they pack much better than bread cuz they don't "squish" as easy.  Plus, they "stick to your ribs".  I'd eat one for lunch and two for dinner.  And they always tasted good!  (Due to the starvation factor of LD hiking).  I liked the "Sunkist" raisin english muffins (usually found in the cold foods section by the butter, cheese, etc.  They're in the same red wrapper that the raisins by the same name are in.)  These are whole wheat (I believe) and have the raisins in them (every little bit of moisture counts) and are not nearly as dry as, say for instance, Thomas'.....however I have used those in an emergency when I couldn't get the others and they were fine.  I also stole little packets of mayonaise from fast food places/ restaurants when I was
 in town and packed them, which made the sandwiches taste just fine.  
 
 By the way, there are 3 kinds of cheese you can carry in your pack that won't go moldy.  (They will get oily, but not moldy).  They are:  any kind of cheddar (mild, sharp, longhorn, etc.), swiss and monterey jack.  These are the 3 kinds I carried and rotated thru for the 4 months.  Cheese supplies protein, fat and calcium.....all good things for the trail.

   I know that tortillas are good for the trail, but I was thinking of using English Muffins for a trail bread too.  Wheeeee....eeeew mentioned this to me the other day.  Has anyone had any experience with English Muffins on the trail?
