[pct-l] Bear canisters

O.K. I can't resist-- if you are not hiking in a National Park (where dogs
are not allowed), the very best bear deterrent, bar none, is a dog. The
bears are looking for easy food, if they smell a dog, not only will bears
not bother you, you are unlikely to even see one!

After more than 40 encounters with bears in the Sierra Nevada, we have had
none since hiking with a dog. We do carry a canister but we call our dog the
"four-legged canister"--he's the best!
